About Little Libraries in Laundromats
There are five active Little Libraries in Laundromats in Houston. The Little Libraries are charter libraries under the Little Free Library brand.
The idea was born one day when I heard that the City of Milwaukee started an initiative to install little libraries inside of laundromats. I researched to see if there was anything like this in Houston and I only found one. I read about a woman in Kingwood, a suburb of Houston, who owns a laundromat and installed a Little Free Library there. I reached out to the Little Free Libraries organization to see if I could use their brand in my idea and they said that I could. That is when Little Libraries in Laundromats was born. My two children Miranda and Seth Ruiz are my co-founders and helped me set up the libraries. They helped collect the books from donors, put some of the first bookshelves together, and filled the libraries with books.
These are the seven laundromats (or washaterias, as we say here in Houston, TX) who have partnered with us and are hosting either a box of books or a bookcase.
We also have an Amazon wish-list for anyone wanting to contribute. We are very grateful for anything we receive! You can also check out our Contact page to see about donating books and/or bookshelves.
Thank you to friends who donated books, money, helped build the bookcases, designed the boxes and have been so supportive of this initiative.
Thank you to these partners!
